5.14 lakh persons on LIFE housing project draft list3.28 lakh are homeless people who own land

As many as 5.14 lakh persons have been included on the draft list of beneficiaries for the second phase of the LIFE housing project of the State government. The Local Self-Government department has published the draft list on www.life2020.kerala.gov.in and in all local bodies. Out of the 5.14 lakh beneficiaries, 3.28 lakh are homeless people who own land, while 1.86 lakh are landless people.

A total of 1.04 lakh of the beneficiaries belong to the Scheduled Castes, while 15,163 are from the Scheduled Tribes and 3.95 lakh from the general category. As many as 9.2 lakh applications were received when the government opened windows for new applications for the second phase of the housing project. Appeals can be submitted in two phases.

Two rounds of appeals

The first round of appeals need to be submitted to the panchayat secretaries or the municipal/Corporation secretaries. The local bodies will set up help desks for filing appeals. In addition, beneficiaries can submit it through Akshaya centres. The first appeal has to be submitted before June 17. The draft list after considering the appeals will be published on July 1.

The next round of appeals on the second draft list can be submitted after that. The second appeal has to be filed before July 8. The third draft list will be published after July 22. The draft list, after considering the two rounds of appeals, will be discussed in the ruling councils of each local body. After this, the list will be scrutinised in grama sabhas and ward sabhas, which will have powers to remove beneficiaries, if they are found to be ineligible.

The ruling councils of the local bodies will again consider these revised lists, which will have to be approved by August 10. After this, the final list of beneficiaries will be published on the LIFE website and in the local bodies on August 16.
